My 2023 Holiday Viewing...

I always like to watch themed movies during the different holidays, and the Christmas 2023 season I kept my tradition alive, though I didn't have time to watch as much as I would have liked to.

Though I did watch a few classic holiday specials, like Charlie Brown, The Grinch, He-Man and She-RA, and Pee Wee's Playhouse, I'm devoting this post to sharing my list of Christmas Horror I found time to view! I'm not getting too deep or reviewing, because of time constraints, so I'm just sharing the movie posters with a short blurb.

I'm gonna get planning for next years Christmas viewing. Maybe I should see what I can find for Valentine's Day horror too? Send me suggestions. I'm @thestevestrout on social media.

Cool Projects 42...Spooky Theatre!

I've been very busy this "Halloween Season", between my commitment to watching a horror or spooky themed film or television show every day in October, recording voice acting parts, writing, being guests at spooky season events with my podcast (The Steve & Crypto Show), and producing said podcasts' run of Halloween Specials.  It's been a grind, but I found time to check out some "spooky theatre", which is a little out of the norm for me. A regional theatre company here on the Olympic Peninsula in Western Washington, called Olympic Theatre Arts, adapted my personal favorite horror movie, Night Of The Living Dead, and I couldn't miss this opportunity.

This year we went all out and did 4 huge episodes to celebrate the Spooky Season. On Part 4, which just released, I mentioned a few table top games, that are perfect for Halloween time, and since our show is audio, I figured I oughtta supplement the episode with some visuals of the games I mentioned, so here goes:

IT'S COOL PROJECTS TIME!!

You know how we do this COOL PROJECTS thing. I post and shoutout current or upcoming projects, whether it be comics, books, artists, crowdfunded projects, movies, and basically any media that falls under the horror or pop culture umbrella.

This round were gonna mention a couple indie films I was invited to screen recently. Though independent and low budget movies can be "less than perfect", there is a lot of heart that goes into these projects...and the entertainment factor is #1 for me. Isn't that what it's all about?

These films were exactly that...Entertaining! Let's see what I watched...and keep in mind, I'm far from a legit film reviewer. I just like to share my thoughts, and point readers and listeners to new stuff!

This was a fun run of episodes, featuring chats with a couple filmmakers in Addison Binek and Ron Bonk, a chat with fellow weirdo and podcaster Ashley Hilt (On Wednesdays, We Talk Weird), and we got the scoop on Indie Horror Junkie Magazine from Rick Danford (who also happens to be a filmmaker). 

It's been a fun handful of episodes, which led to our 3rd year of the podcast. Be sure you're subscribed on your favorite podcast player, as we have a lot of awesome to come...INCLUDING HALLOWEEN!!!

In this run of episodes, on the Steve & Crypto Show podcast, we had a series of interviews based around Seattle Crypticon. That's our big horror convention here in the PNW. 

We had some great chats with folks like the iconic Kelli Maroney (Night Of The Comet, Chopping Mall), Matthew Patrick Davis (Barbarian), and some great indie filmmakers named Jason Brooks and Jeremy Rudd. The latter have a slasher dropping around Halloween called 'DIE'CED', and it looks great! 

We wrapped up that run of shows with a recap from Crypticon featuring a fun chat with the Adams Family, fresh off their appearance last season on The Last Drive In with Joe Bob Briggs. 

Washington State Summer Con 2023!

I haven't been to a convention since Crypticon, and a large con in a few years. Time and the way the world had been, kinda kept me laying low for the most part....

I was well past due for a big convention, and that's just what I didn't with my visit to Washington State Summer Con. 

It was a solid show. Saw old friends. Made some new ones. I even stayed under my spending budget...just kidding, I totally over spent.

If you've been a follower of my podcast, The Steve & Crypto Show, you know I love supporting indie filmmakers. We interview them, and have them come hype their funding campaigns on a regular basis. A lot of the films are hit or miss, but there IS the occasional gem, and Grandma is one of the gems we found through one of our episodes (which I'll mention later).

If you're a long time follower of this site, you probably remember my series where I promoted creators works, which I titled 'Cool Projects'.  That sort of evolved into The Steve & Crypto Show, in a sense (as did this whole blog/site). I think, in my efforts to post more here, bringing back the 'Cool Projects' series is a great idea. One, so I can continue to get content out here and build my brand as a whole, but also, THERES WAY TOO MUCH AWESOME SHIT BEING CREATED to keep up with on the podcast schedule. That being said, I'm reviving 'Cool Projects' here. 

Time Flies When You're Having Fun (And Busy As F*@#!)!!!

I really hoped to get to this post a lot sooner, but things have just been so crazy for me, in the best possible way over the last 12 months.

Just about a year ago, to the day, we were in the middle of "campaigning" for votes in The Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards, where The Steve & Crypto Show was nominated, for the first time, in the 'Best Podcast' category.
